The use of the classic documentaries is abolished on 1.1.2013

The classic Danish documentaries were introduced in 1862 to prove the payment of the documentary duty. The use of the stamps continued when the stamp duty law in 2000 was limited to be only valid for insurance documents (except life insurances). At that time, most of the insurance companies used an old possibility to pay the stamp duty without having to affix a stamp to each insurance document. Consequently, the use of the stamps was quite limited afterwards. A new law, becoming effectively on 1.1.2013, change the old stamp duty law into an insurance duty law, and the new duty has to be paid without the use of documentary stamps. Thus, after 150 years, the classic documentaries are out of use.

An example of a classic documentary. This oak leaves design was introduced in 1875 at the same time of the new currency of "kroner" and "øre". It replace an older design using the currency of "rigsdaler" and "skilling". Thus, the oak leaves design was in use from 1875 until 2012, however with small variations making it possible to establish several series.
